Hi Beks
I am not a Brit, but I have family there and we visited them December three years ago... It was a fantastic holiday and I loved every minute (except that I was on crutches most of the time - that was not cool!)
So here was what we did...
We went in December and although it was f'ing cold, I loved it, as I am from Africa and it rarely gets very cold here so it was novel! Plus the christmas shop windows were amazing! Christmas felt really authentic there. Where I come from we braai (bbq) our turkey and gammon!
We spent a good few days wondering around London - did a red bus tour of the city to get an overview. Did some of the galleries and museums - the Tate Modern was a fave of mine, as was the Dali Exhibition which was on at the time. I explored some of the stores while Mr PDB went to his favourite football team stadium. The London Eye was awesome, but the queues were not!
We went to Windsor castle - quite interesting.
We took a day trip down to Brighton - totally different to the seaside resorts I am used to! We also took a few days and drove through the Cotswolds, Oxford, Bath, Glastonbury and Chedder - I loved The Cotswolds! So gorgeous!
As for eating - the pastie shop Crumpet mentioned - The West Cornwall Pastie Co... their pies were delish. Also great was a Thai Restaurant called the Blue Elephant.
Ahhh - I wish I could go back!!!

The smell of brand new stationery - when I started school in Grade 1, we all had really hard cardboard suitcases that had a special scent of their own.
The smell of rain coming - I dont know if it is an African thing but you can smell the rain before it gets here. The smell after the rain, of dust settled.
The smell of my mother after her evening bathroom routine - all creamy and fresh. I think of it often as I do the same thing now.
Thanks JD! Nice thread.

You will never overcome your Witness past...
by JimmyPage in... unless you read apostate views.. you may become inactive, like i did, and find a way to assimilate yourself into the normal world.. but you will always have at your core a view of the world that the witnesses gave you.
their basic teachings will still be your world view.. you will never realize you were indoctrinated by a cult.. for those poisoned by jehovah's witnesses there is only one antidote.. there is only one way to understand your life and progress from there.. the only true cure for jehovah's witnesses is apostasy..

I totally get what you are saying Jimmy Page.
We can all sit around and argue semantics and whether using Their terms to describe something means you are still indoctrinated, but the point is until you realise they are not the Truth, you can never truly be free.
I have discarded 99.999% of the beliefs I grew up with, but I do battle to replace them

I left the organization 12 years ago predominantly to pursue a relationship with a "worldy" boy. The reasons I left are now completely different to the reasons I will never go back thanks to this forum. The relief at knowing I was not alone and not wrong and doomed was an immense relief.

Why On Earth Did YOU Ever Become a JW???
by minimus inmy excuse: born in it and stayed in way too long.. your reason??
?.

Born in here...
My parents both became witnesses as young adults, before they met each other. My maternal grandmother was not a dub, but her father was - he was one of the "early bible students" as my mother loves to say, and he gave a "millions now living will never die" talk. I am not sure if that makes me a second or third generation.
I got out, soon after I left school, but truly, my heart was never in it as a kid.
I often wonder "What if?"

Badboy, I don't know the song you are speaking of, but I can tell you that many African languages use the name Jehovah in their translations of the bible.

I hadn't heard about this... thanks for posting. Thank goodness our courts ordered the Blood Transfusion.
You have to wonder whether the parents would be secretly relieved at the court order - it takes the decision out of their hands and their "conscience" would be clear.

I generally only ever use the "active topics" on this forum, so I didn't even notice.
